Dr Nicholas Carr
Dr Nicholas Carr is a native Tasmanian and after studying Medicine at Monash University in Melbourne, made the decision to return to Hobart with a passion for providing quality healthcare to fellow Tasmanians.
He has interests in cardiovascular, sport and acute care medicine, having completed an Emergency Medicine Certificate at the Royal Hobart Hospital in 2021.
Supplementing his medical career, Nick has over ten years’ experience in Clinical Perfusion, which includes more than 1000 cardiopulmonary bypasses for cardiac surgery including 4 years in the Heart and Lung Transplant Unit at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
Nick has a passion for continued learning, and is committed to providing evidence-based-high quality medicine to the Tasmanian community.

Professor Mark Nelson
Professor Mark Nelson
Mark Nelson has fellowships in general practice and public health. He is Professor and Chair, Discipline of General Practice, School of Medicine and Senior Member Menzies Institute for Medical Research where he is also medical director of the Blood Pressure Clinic, both at the University of Tasmania. He is also an Adjunct Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Melbourne. His research interests are around large-scale clinical trials in in primary care. He has 273 peer reviewed medical publications, has been awarded more than $80 million in competitive grants and is a principal investigator on the NIH sponsored ASPREE / ASPREE-XT study (N = 19,000) investigating if aspirin extends healthy active life, and the NHMRC sponsored STAREE (recruitment to date >5000) similarly investigating if statins extend healthy active life. He also has been an author on multiple guidelines for cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment.

Hannah grew up in Tasmania graduating from the University of Tasmania in 2007. Since then she has completed a Child Health Diploma through Westmead Children’s Hospital, her Sexual Health Certificate and received her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of general Practice in 2016. She has a special interest in paediatrics, women’s health and sexual health. Hannah currently works part time, outside of work she is a busy mum of two young daughters and enjoys relaxing with family and friends, fitness and travel.

Dr Jackson graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2011.
She was awarded a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2016 and is dedicated to teaching the next generation of General Practitioners by also working at the UTAS. Her clinical interests include pediatrics and women’s health

Dr Stephanie Das
Dr Stephanie Das
Dr Stephanie Das is a highly qualified General Practitioner with advanced training in skin cancer medicine, dermatology, and procedural general practice. Originally trained in Glasgow, she moved to New Zealand in 2008, where she spent five years as a surgical registrar across general surgery, plastic surgery, ENT, and neurosurgery. She completed her Master of Medical Science with Honours in 2014 and transitioned into general practice, where she has since built a strong focus in skin cancer management.
Now based in Hobart, Dr Das has developed advanced expertise in the early detection and comprehensive management of skin cancers. She has completed Part 1 of the Skin Cancer Australasia (SCCA) Fellowship and is on track to complete full skin cancer fellowship in 2026—positioning her to become one of only four skin cancer fellows practising in Tasmania in 2026. She is currently also a Tutor for Advanced Surgical course for SCCA.
Dr Das is known for performing skin checks in a respectful yet extremely thorough manner, always maintaining patient dignity. She provides comprehensive advice on both medical and surgical management of skin cancer, including surgical excisions, primary closures, skin flaps, and grafts for lesions across various anatomical sites.
She welcomes new patients for skin checks, surgical procedures, and is committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centred care in every aspect of her practice. Outside work, Dr Das enjoys spending time with family, hiking, skiing, cycling and climbing.

Dr Alex Johnson
Dr Alex Johnson
Originally from Hobart, Dr Alex Johnson graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2019. Since then, Alex has gained diverse clinical experience working across Hobart, Burnie, and Darwin, with a strong foundation in general medicine, medical subspecialties, and emergency care.
Dr Johnson has a particular interest in both acute care and preventative health, aiming to provide well-rounded, patient-centred care that supports long-term wellbeing.
Outside of medicine, Alex enjoys staying active through sport, as well as reading and exploring new places through travel.

Dr Cassandra Upston

I am particularly interested in preventative care, paediatrics, women’s health and allergy medicine (specifically asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis). Outside of medicine, I love spending time with my family, being outdoors, reading and fitness.

Dr Min Giffard
Dr Min Giffard
Dr Min Giffard graduated from UTAS in 2000 and has subsequently worked in various locations around the country including the NT, WA, QLD and Tassie. She undertook her GP training in WA where she developed an interest in women’s health, completing the Sexual and Reproductive Health certification with Family Planning and subsequently working in Family Planning in Perth, Adelaide and Hobart. She has completed further training in Implanon and IUD insertion.
In 2021 she completed Part 1 of the Australian Medical Acupuncture College course. She uses an evidenced based approach with using both needles and laser acupuncture to treat a range of conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, neck and back pain and mild depression/anxiety as well as various specific women’s health issues such as menopausal hot flushes and period pain. After spending over a decade in general practice, Min has now focused her clinical practice exclusively on women’s health and medical acupuncture.
When she isn’t at work Min is trying to juggle family life, trail running and training the new member of the family – a very active puppy!

Dr Felmingham enjoys the variety of medicine that working in general practice allows. She has completed extra study in women’s health, paediatrics and palliative care. Amanda enjoys being able to address preventative health and how lifestyle changes can improve people’s quality of life.

Dr Nidhi Verma completed her medical degree in Tasmania before moving interstate for further training. She moved back to Tasmania in 2018 and has been working as a general practitioner since. She has a particular interest in travel medicine, chronic disease and indigenous Australian health. In her free time, she can often be found enjoying a swim at the beach or hiking the many magnificent trails in Tasmania.

Dr Ruben Burvenich is a Belgian-trained GP and researcher who is passionate about evidence-based, patient-centered care. He completed a PhD focused on helping doctors make better choices about prescribing antibiotics for sick children. As a GP, Ruben enjoys approaching patients in person-centered and holistic way, tailoring care to each person’s unique needs. He speaks English (fluent), Dutch (native), and French (proficient). Outside of medicine, he enjoys music, swimming, cycling, running, and exploring Tasmania’s natural beauty. And yes – as a Belgian, he loves chocolate more than he probably should.

Dr Sanda Smith
Sanda is a Consultant Paediatrician, sub-specialized in the field of Community Child Health (Developmental Paediatrician). Sanda is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics) and Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health, U.K. She completed her Medical Degree (MBBS) at the University of Medicine 1 Yangon.
She has extensive experience in developmental paediatrics along with Sleep, Autism, Developmental Delay, ADHD, Continence problems and other learning and behavioural difficulties. She worked as a Community Paediatrician in the U.K for 12 years. She has also worked in New South Wales, Royal Hobart Hospital and St Giles.
Sanda is qualified to administer ADOS II, a formal Autism diagnostic tool, performs autism assessments for children of all ages and is an accredited facilitator of Emotional-Based Social Skills Training for children with Autism.
Sanda is qualified to administer the Griffiths III so referrals for formal developmental assessment for children under 6 years of age are welcome. She has also completed a Diploma in Child and Adolescent Mental Health through the University Of Leicester, U.K. and is a certified sleep practitioner.

Dr Geoff Donegan
Dr Geoff Donegan
Geoff grew up in country Western Australia and, after completing a science degree in Physics and Mathematics, worked as a speech writer in Canberra, Sydney and Perth for ten years. He then studied medicine at Flinders University, graduating with honours in 2001. He began his early paediatric training at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, completing further training at Princess Margret Hospital for Children in Perth and The Royal Hobart Hospital.
Long fascinated by the emotional and intellectual development of the paediatric brain, Geoff’s clinical emphasis is on children with complex behavioural and emotional difficulties, working to optimize their social, family and academic engagement and support their self-esteem. Geoff has post graduate qualifications in Paediatric Rheumatology and also works within The Royal Hobart’s Paediatric Diabetes Team.
Geoff is passionate about learning from children and their families and communicating his experience. Every year he educates local school students about sleep and screen-time and parents about ADHD, Autism and engaging with their children. He has presented workshops for paediatricians and other health professionals on ADHD and other topics in Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart and Launceston.
